Principle five: Collaboration

Prof: Dinia Luna

According to Nataly Hess, there are eleven priciples teachers can take into account to cope with multilevel classrooms. One of these principles is Collaboration.
It is especilly for those large classes teachers usually deal with in our Costa Rican educational system. It means working together in a cooperative way.
Some activities teacher can implement in class are mentioned as follows:
  • Group work activities
  • Pair work
  • Peer review
  • Brainstorming ideas
  • Collaborative writing, projects, readings, among others.
  • Jigsaw activities.
  • Buddy activities. (work in pairs to plan their listening or speaking practice)
With these activities students are able to:
  • Develop collaborative learning attitude.
  • Be more likely to participate in class.
  • Be a better risk taker.
  • monitor and evaluate themselves.
Teachers can take advantage of it and encourage students to be cooperative in class and create a good environment through social interaction.
